On the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust the EU Delegation to the UN – in collaboration with the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma – organized an exhibition entitled "'The Holocaust against the Roma and Sinti and present day racism in Europe'" at the UN Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The victims of the Holocaust were commemorated with a Minute of silence and a concert by the German Radio Orchestra, the Misgav Hagalil Choir and the Bayreuth Zamir Choir at the Assembly Hall. It was given by more than 135 artists (65 musicians and 70 singers) from Germany and Israel.
The event was preceded by the opening speeches delivered by Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva and Aviva Raz Shechter, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Office in Geneva. During the ceremony Mr. Elie Buzyn, born in Łódź Holocaust Survivor, shared his painful testimony.
The event was organized by the United Nations. Some of the diplomatic missions to the UN Office were co-organizers of the concert, including Permanent Mission of Poland in Geneva.
